I spent 2 nights in Portland before Australia day and got in about 14hrs of fishing over 2 days and caught somewhere around 60 fish. plenty of little silver trevally and zebra fish off the trawler wharf and some wrasse and sweep off the breakwater as well as the odd fish that I am unfamiliar with. I also tried squid jigging for the first time and got three nice calamari.

Spent a few hours this morning fishing the campaspe river near kyneton. I had caught six redfin in the first hour before it started raining and then the bites virtualy stopped when it got heavier. I caught another two small ones not long before I left. All fish were caght on worms and it seemed like there were a lot of very small ones around since there were a lot of dropped bites and five of the fish landed were only about 15cm. Biggest was 30cm and another two about 25cm. Also tried some lures and live yabby as bait but all seemed to be getting ignored.
rain had gotten very heavy before I left.

I went out to look at a couple of spots today that had been recommended to me by a local fly fisher I bumped into the other day. The first was a little too windy with a onshore breeze to the only accessible spot and the second had no action whatsoever while I was there. I then went back down to where I caught the little trout the other day and tried some baitfishing with worms. The water was flowing well today from the reservoir above and it didn't take long to hook a nice size brown trout.

I tried back at maribyrnong again on Jan 15 to no luck. Jan 16 I went for a walk along the werribee river and fished some small pools for trout. I came across several small brown trout along a kilometer or so of river as well as many small freshwater crayfish out and about, only one fish caught for the day as water was not currently being released from the reservoir upstream.
Jan 17 I went to Daylesford and put the inflatable on Jubilee lake for a couple of hours of lure flicking and drifting bait but nothing bit.
I then stopped at Wombat reservoir to cast a few squidgeys on the way home, also to no luck. Yesterday and today were spent driving to and from Portland to visit family so no fishing, but i did get to see a very large ray down near the boat ramp in town.

tried a bit of surf fishing again on Jan 13 down at Anglesea, to no success. Jan 14 I drove to Seymour and spent a few hours fishing the Goulburn river using yabbies for bait. There were several dropped bites and one fish landed.
fishing among the snags of fallen trees usually does the trick.
Just on 63cm and weighing 7lb its not a monster but well worth the 1.5 hr drive.
Today was a bit cool and rainy but i tried for some bream again in the Maribyrnong river, though no fish were biting.

I went out on jan 9 to give some surf fishing a crack, but only got 2 very small salmon at point lonsdale near the surf lifesavers club. went out yesterday for 2hrs near kyneton fishing the campaspe river for redfin. caught a total of 7 fish between 20cm and 33cm and kept the best 2 for dinner.
went out again today around maribyrnong below highpiont and got 4 bream, the biggest measuring a little over 37cm. the first 3 fish caught were in the shallows and i was able to sight cast to the fish to try and get the ones i wanted. they were spooked after a little while by a passing charter boat and went down deep after that. I had been using live shrimp for bait that i collected last week but when I ran out I started using unweighted squidgy critter baits coated in xfactor, only managed 1 on the imitation bait.
