morning outing

I went out for a few hours last Saturday morning and fished the Campaspe river for 2 hrs as the sun rose on the water. I caught a total of 14 fish between 15 and 20cm with no real exceptional periods to speak of due to the clarity of the water. It seemed as though the fish were a little more cautious than when the water was clouded slightly. Many fish followed the lures all the way to my feet without striking and even a school of 6 fish followed in one hooked fish early on. I did get a good strike on a large lure that seemed a big fish but he got off before I could see him. Shortly before leaving a large carp started cruising back and forth in front of me and I snapped a picture.

New year break

I have been out and about over the last 3 weeks with mixed success. The first week of the holiday I took the kayak out at Limeburners lagoon and caught a single fish, a 36cm snapper. I also went yabbying with the kids and got plenty of nice yabbies for bait and to stock a dam as well as gave the dams owner a feed. The next day I took some yabbies up to Nagambie and kayaked th Goulburn river for a few hours but there were too many boats and jetskis on the water and I didn't even get a bite. I stopped at Seymour on the way back for an hour and got a few good nibbles on yabby and worm but no hook ups. I had a few days off fishing and took the kids out kayaking on a couple of local rivers and at lake Wendouree. I also got a place in the Barra ballot so last week I took the inflatable over to Moorwell and tried again for a barramundi but no success. I did manage about fifteen of the little chiclids though so at least I had a bit of action. There was also 2 separate trips to a farmers stocked dams where we tried for trout and yellowbelly but we also had no success on those occasions. This weekend just gone I was back in Portland and spent a total of 8 hours fishing off the breakwall for a total of 40 pinky snapper and 2 small flathead, to finish off my break on a high note.
