I ignored the doom and gloom weather report yesterday and took the kids and my uncle up to Nagambie to catch a few pricklybacks and yet again the weatherman could not have been more wrong. it was a beautiful day to sit on the bank of the Goulburn River and we caught 9 crays in total but only 2 were legal animals. More than half of the crays returned to the water were berried females so it is good to see a healthy population breeding in this area. I also scrounged up some worms in the area and threw a line in for a while but had no takers on the rod.

A break in the weather
We had a couple of nice days this week in between the rain that has hung around so I took the opportunity to go out to Bostok reservoir and to Kyneton. I didn't do much fishing at Bostock as I did walking while I looked for signs of activity. I got a few more practice casts in with the fly rod and spent a little while casting blades but saw no action, it was good to see the water rising again though.
The next day I went to Kyneton and fished the campaspe river in the evening, mainly casting squidgy bugs but also tried a few other patterns and a couple of hardbody lures. The squidgy bug ended up landing me 5 redfin between 15cm and 30cm and I got another over 25cm on a savage hardbody.

bostock was calm as a millpond
the rising water had caused spiders to retreat and there was a sea of webs

Wet winter, calm days.
Since the last post I have been out several times to different spots. I fished from St. Helens rock wall on a dreadful day and caught 2 flathead over about 3 hours. I kayaked on lake Wendouree for a little while casting lures but got no bites. I returned to St. Helens for another couple of hours but got nothing. I kayaked the Maribyrnong river for a look while it was flowing quite hard and dirty but didn't take a rod out. I tried flicking some lures at Bostock res. for an hour after a water rise but got nothing and yesterday went surf fishing at Jan Juc for several hours catching a nice flathead and a small salmon. I have let time get away from me and missed most of the cray season due to being a bit busy with other stuff but hopefully I can get up there a few times in the next 6 weeks before it closes.
