Flathead at Geelong

I went out in the kayak again, this time from Rippleside near Geelong. I drifted between 80 and 300 meters from shore and then rowed in again to do another drift and position over a new area. On my first drift I had caught 2 flathead before I had even rigged my second rod, but things quietened down after that. I moved about several times and even paddled in around the old jetty structure to see if there was anything holding near the pylons. It wasn't till about 2hrs after the first 2 fish that i got another and I must have drifted over a nice little hole because both rods hooked up at the same time, and I got another 2 flathead. All up about 2 and a half hours on the water.

Kayaking Corio bay

I took out my kayak this afternoon for a few hours at the mouth of Corio bay off Point Henry. I paddled about 500m from shore and anchored at the edge of the shipping channel where it drops from about 2m to 15m and cast out some baits. There were only a few very timid nibbles while I was out and no hookups so I came back empty handed. I also paddled over to the Alcoa wharf and drifted back for a little while but still no bites there either. On the way back I came across a couple of banjo sharks in the shallows near where I parked. Still an enjoyable afternoon regardless of captures.

family fun

Last weekend I took the kids to noojee  and we put a couple of baited lines in the Latrobe river to find a Gippsland crayfish but no luck. I also spent a little while casting some small lures in the river but it seemed very dirty from the recent rain and I saw no trout. On the way home we stopped at the trout farm and the kids got to catch a trout each before we went home. The Monday public holiday we went to Nagambie to try for some Murray crays but had no luck there, possibly due to extremely low flow coming down the river as it was the lowest I have ever seen it there.

Quiet few weeks.

I headed down to portarlington one evening a couple of weeks ago and fished for a few hours to no success but had several odd bites that could have been squid taking my baits. I also scouted a camp site on the Goulburn River past Murchison that looks like a good spot for cod and crays, so that will be happening soon. I will probably go out today and tomorrow fishing as the weather is looking good for some trout or crayfish so expect another post soon.
